Directed by Steve McQueen and based on his partner Bianca Stigter’s book Atlas of an Occupied City, Amsterdam 1940-1945, this documentary uncovers the atrocities of the Nazi occupation that still haunt Amsterdam today. In lieu of any archival footage, the film pairs first-person accounts with scenes of present-day life in a city still reeling from the pandemic and subsequent social unrest.

Steve McQueen was nominated for the Golden Eye at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
