Based on the 1925 novel by W. Somerset Maugham, this drama stars Edward Norton as a British bacteriologist and Naomi Watts as his socialite wife. Despite feeling trapped in an ill-suited marriage, they’ve journeyed to a remote village in China to fight a cholera epidemic.

Alexandre Desplat won the award for Best Original Score at the 2007 Golden Globes.
